Elisa Walking Purple

I do not enjoy sports or exercise of any kind, manner, fashion, or means. Towards this end, I hesitantly committed to walk one hour a day. Right now, I walk in two 45 minute blocks. My goal is to increase to two straight hours walking. In the mornings I walk on my treadmill. In the afternoon/evening I walk the halls at school or in the park.

Sometimes, students ask for help well after the school day has ended. They have to attend other teachers’ tutorials or athletic practices. The first time it happened, a student was desperate for help. I told him, I will be on the second floor. If you can find me and keep up, come on. We bustled along, conjugating verbs and working on grammar. He now asks, are you wearing the purple dress today because if I’m in my purple dress, I’m walking.

I’m open for tutorials, but only if you can keep up. Quiet walking time is gone, but kids have another option if they need help.The fun activities that get me moving are using a hula hoop and riding a bicycle. My hope is to rediscover the childhood joy of playing to move and burn off calories rather than the drudgery of exercise so that this becomes a part of my lifestyle. Every day one of these “play” a part in my life. I’m on the lookout for new ideas. Elisa Hula Hoop
