Each month, I am contacted by both men and women who would like to come to boot camp, but who can’t afford the monthly fees. They ask for work-study programs and scholarships. I would love to have them, but honesty, I can’t afford it.

One of my current members mentioned finding sponsors. So that is what I’m doing.

For each accumulated $495 donated to RFBC, I will put out an application to morbidly obese men and women to apply for a 6-month scholarship for RFBC and a Daily Log with Carlene. This is our typical program that is $99 per 4-week session. Your donated $495 will cover most of the first 5 months. I will cover the sixth. If the awardee maintains continual membership and weight loss for the full six months, that person will receive top consideration for the next available scholarship. I reserve the right to figure this part out as we go.

The requirements for the scholarship will be as follows:

Applicant must be a minimum of 125 pounds over their ideal weight (as set by insurance standards).

Applicant must prove financial distress while also showing an ability to pay for the raw food required to do this program successfully.

Applicant must abide by all RFBC rules and allow their photos to be shown (with blurred face like other members) and to be notated as a scholarship member for donors to watch their investment.  Refusal to supply photos and scale verifications in a timely manner would terminate their scholarship.

When applicant reaches the 80 pounds gone mark, they must agree to go public with their story on the RFBC website and other media outlets used by RFBC. That will require showing their face and for them to write a blurb about their experience at RFBC and a special thank you to those who made their scholarship possible.

When the application process opens, applicants will apply via email.

I will at that time offer, the Introduction to Raw Food Boot Camp program free to all for five days or a similar program. Myself and a selected group of RFBC current clients will participate and from that participation we will choose whom the scholarship goes to for that period. We will make that decision based on need (not financial, but health and wellness) and our belief that the person will succeed. I may also conduct a personal interview via the phone.

In the past, I have offered scholarships to those who it turned out were just looking for a free ride and did not give it their all. We will be very careful not to get caught up in applicants’ sad stories or pages of promises, but look instead for a motivation to succeed. That does not mean they have to be perfect, just that they won’t give up or become complacent.

If an awardee leaves camp prior to the five months the donations covered, $99 per remaining full month will be put back into the scholarship fund.
